OpenOffice dead, LibreOffice ascendant?

Here’s another article about Oracle giving up on OpenOffice in light of the LibreOffice project. So the venerable OpenOffice might finally die off, only to be reborn, phoenix-like, as LibreOffice.

It’s happened before in open source software; when Netscape Navigator died off, Netscape open-sourced the code, which eventually became the vastly more popular Mozilla Firefox browser.
