how to sideload books
Whenever I give away free books, I usually get a few questions asking how to sideload the free books onto Kindles and Nooks. So I wrote up a set of directions on how to do so for my nonfiction site, one for Kindle devices, and one for Nook devices. Hope these are helpful!

I was lost the first time I got one of the freebies too. I found you can also just load it into the Kindle app (android devices only, not for actual Kindles) with a file manager app. Move from the downloads folder to the main Kindle folder and when you reopen the app it will be in your shelf.
Yeah – I still need to write guides for “generic Android phone” and iPad/iOS. Smashwords is great, but to use it effectively someone needs slightly more than the average amount of tech knowledge.
