    Will I learn how to get around ubuntu’s crude driver installation so that I can point it at the driver I want to use?
    I’m trying to install a Brothers wireless printer and it searches for a driver, (Never letting me point it at the driver) and finds a generic driver that doesn’t work!
    I’ve only run ubuntu off a DVD as a trial run to see if it will do what I need it to (so far it won’t run Netflix). It’s painfully slow. I didn’t think anything was slower than MS. I’m running a dual core AMD with Win 7 on a laptop.

      Your best bet is to check the Ubuntu Hardware Compatibility List and see if your model of Brother printer is included:

      http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/catalog/

      If it isn’t, I’m afraid you might be out of luck. Sorry.
