In 2013, a gate to another world opened, and Elves used their magic to conquer Earth, crushing all resistance before them.

Three hundred years after the Conquest, the exiled Elven High Queen rules an orderly but stagnant Earth, with humanity forced to fight in the High Queen’s war against the traitors on the Elven homeworld.

Nadia Moran doesn’t care about that. She doesn’t care about the High Queen, or the Rebels seeking to overthrow her. All she cares about is getting her baby brother the treatments he needs to recover from his potentially fatal disease…and those treatments have a steep price.

Fortunately, Nadia has magic of her own, and she’s a very, very good thief.

Unfortunately, the powerful Elven lord Morvilind has a hold on Nadia. If she doesn’t follow his commands, her brother is going to die.

Of course, given how dangerous Morvilind’s missions are, Nadia might not live long enough to see her brother’s death…

She wants freedom, and she wants power. Unfortunately for her, she has little enough of either. To make matters worse, her baby brother Russell is dying of a rare magical disease, and the only one who can cure him is the cruel Elven archmage Morvilind.

If that were not enough, Morvilind demands a steep price for his cures.

Specifically, he wants Nadia to use her skill and magic to steal treasures for him, and this time he’s sent Nadia to steal a priceless relic from the ambassador of the frost giants.

And the frost giants never forget a grudge…

If she does not do Morvilind’s bidding, her brother will die.

But there are more dangers in the world than Morvilind.

When rebel Elves launch an assault upon the High Queen, Nadia Moran finds herself caught between the rebels and Morvilind’s implacable demands.

Nadia Moran is an illegal wizard, an expert thief, and an occasional killer.

So robbing the mansion of the Elven noble Lord Castomyr should prove no challenge at all.

Except another thief has an eye on Lord Castomyr’s treasures, a thief with magical abilities Nadia does not understand.

And unless Nadia outwits this master thief, she’ll be the one left holding the bag…and among the Elves, the punishment for theft is death.

Nadia Moran has made a lot of mistakes in her career as a master thief, but thanks to her wit and her magical skills, she’s been able to avoid the consequences.

But now the consequences have caught up to her.

She owes a favor to the powerful Knight of Grayhold, and the time has come to pay up.

And unless Nadia does something clever, repaying that favor is going to get her killed…

Nadia Moran’s luck has run out at last.

The High Queen’s Inquisition is coming for her, led by the Lord Inquisitor himself. Desperate and trapped, Nadia has no choice but to cut a deal.

But the price of Nadia’s freedom might destroy her utterly…

Nadia Moran saved the world and tens of millions of lives.

But sane or not, Lord Morvilind has work for her to do. This time, he wants her to work with the brutal and murderous Rebels.

And unless Nadia is clever, the Rebels will start their revolution with her death…

Nadia Moran is in serious trouble.

Bad enough that Lord Morvilind is forcing her to work with the Rebels. Even worse that the murderous Rebels want her dead.

But this time, the Rebels want her to rob a bank.

Specifically, the Royal Bank itself, the best-defended building in North America.

And unless Nadia uses all her magic and all her cleverness, she’s going to take the fall for the heist of the century…

If all goes well, REBEL FIST ought to come out about a week before Christmas. Sooner, if I can manage it.

After that, I need to finish up a quick side project I’m obliged to do, and then I’m going to start FROSTBORN: THE HIGH LORDS and MASK OF DRAGONS.

I haven’t started on this series yet (want to finish reading FROSTBORN first, then dive into these so I can read more at once), but the cover for Truth Chain really caught my eye and made me think of Revy from Black Lagoon with the daisy dukes, combat boots, and pistol. You should check it out, one of my favorite characters ^_^

Skimmed the excerpt, interesting to see a series from you written in first person. Looking forward to starting this.

Have to admit I had never heard of Black Lagoon, but I looked it up and see the resemblance!

I wrote it in first person because most urban fantasy seems to be first person.

The 1st CLOAK GAMES is free!

Really enjoyed “Hammer Break” and the short story “Iron Mage” as well. The Cloak Games series is one of my favorites and as much as I love the FrostBorn/Seven Fold Sword I would love to see more emphasis on this series. I know it is important to pay the bills and that some of your other works do that, but I really enjoy the setting and characters in Cloak Games.

Thank you for all your writing and for not making us wait 10 years between books!

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed HAMMER BREAK & IRON IMAGE.

I have to admit that the final FROSTBORN book sold something like 5 times as many copies in its first month as CLOAK GAMES: TOMB HOWL did in its first month. So I suppose commercially it would make sense to drop everything else and focus on FROSTBORN/SEVENFOLD SWORD, but I would get bored just writing one series, and I really want to bring CLOAK GAMES to a proper conclusion.
