This time it’s from the second main character, Lucan Mandragon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen you admit it,\u201d said the voice. \u201cWould you change it, if you could?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cYes,\u201d said Lucan.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWhat is done is done,\u201d said the dry voice, \u201cbut it is not too late to keep worse things from happening. If you truly regret your deeds, perhaps you can yet avert a worse fate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t understand,\u201d said Lucan.<\/em><\/p>\n For the first time confusion started to worm its way through the unending guilt and horror and regret that choked his thoughts, and his mind started to work again. He was dead and this was his punishment. So why was he hearing voices?
