\u201cGreetings,\u201d said Ridmark, switching to the orcish tongue. \u201cWe are simply passing through this land.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHuman!\u201d barked the toad-creature.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cYes, that\u2019s right,\u201d said Ridmark. Well, in Third\u2019s case, half-right.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHumans not come to swamp!\u201d said the toad-thing. \u201cThat very sad!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIs it, now?\u201d said Ridmark, holding his staff before him.<\/em><\/p>\n Something in the creature\u2019s posture made Third reach for the hilts of her swords.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cYes, very sad,\u201d said the toad-creature. \u201cDo you know why?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWhy is that?\u201d said Ridmark.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHumans taste good!\u201d said the toad-creature, and it moved in a blur.<\/em><\/p>\n And here’s an excerpt from CLOAK GAMES: MAGE FALL:<\/p>\n \u201cMy lord, I have an idea,\u201d said Russell.<\/em><\/p>\n Morvilind glared at him. Russell remained calm. Not even the grim attention of the Magebreaker could make Russell\u2019s poise waver.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWell, we\u2019ve heard from the Shadow Hunter,\u201d said Morvilind. \u201cSo why not hear from the youth? Please, Mr. Moran, regale us with your opinion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI think results matter to you more than methods,\u201d said Russell. \u201cI get that, I really do. People can be unreliable. But, if I can make an observation to you, my lord, your methods have left you stuck on Earth for three hundred years. So if one method isn\u2019t working, perhaps it\u2019s time to try another. The result is more important than the intention anyway.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHow fitting,\u201d said Morvilind, though his tone was less harsh than before. \u201cThe fate of Kalvarion and Earth hangs in the balance, and I must stop my work to explain things to my inferiors.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIf the fate of Earth and Kalvarion are really in the balance,\u201d said Russell, voice quiet, \u201cand you have the chance to save them, I doubt you would flinch from any method.
