Happy New Year!

For the first Interesting Links of 2019, we’ll look at New Year’s predictions!

The two common threads of New Year’s predictions, of course, are 1.) they’re often filled with gloom and doom, and 2.) they’re usually wrong. 🙂 Though to be honest, I don’t put much stock in New Year’s predictions. They tend to be excessively gloomy, which acts as a sort of negative self-programming. Still, they are interesting to read!

-Mark Coker of Smashwords shares his New Year’s predictions. 2019 Book Industry Predictions: The Butterflies Will Flap Their Wings.

-I’ve found this part to be true, but then it’s really always been true. “As noted in my 2018 round-up yesterday, Amazon shifted their focus in 2018 to grow their advertising revenue and this means that it is now a pay-to-play environment, in the same way that Facebook shifted a few years back. Indie authors will need to up-skill in marketing – either to use ads, or other means to get traffic to their books.”  Trends For Authors And Creative Goal Setting 2019.

-This post from The Passive Voice has some good advice for 2019. “However, with a large organization, things can always change and indie authors need to be wise and ready to change when change is thrust upon them or when change can provide better opportunities for their books and their business.” Planning For 2019, Part 2.
