Battle Brothers, the Switch Edition

When I wrote my post about the soundtrack for BATTLE BROTHERS on 3/11, I had no idea that the Switch port of the game had been released that day!

Naturally, I picked it up right away.

If you’re familiar with the Switch, you know that ports of PC games can be hit-or-miss. Diablo 3 and Baldur’s Gate were good ports. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night started out pretty weak but improved substantially with multiple passes. Other ports were less successful.

That said, I’m pleased to report that the BATTLE BROTHERS Switch port is excellent. It helps that the developers modified the interface so that every button in the game has a little tooltip hovering over it telling you which button to use on the Switch controller.
What’s nice about the Switch port is that BATTLE BROTHERS tends to max out a PC processor, which means the fan on a laptop is running all the time and the computer gets uncomfortably hot. By contrast, playing with the Switch on a couch is much more comfortable. A small pleasure, I know, but if 2020 has taught us anything it’s to appreciate all good things while they last.

So, if you’re looking for a game to play, I think BATTLE BROTHERS for Switch would be worth your time.
