FROSTBORN: THE DRAGON KNIGHT now available in audio

I am very pleased to report that FROSTBORN: THE DRAGON KNIGHT is now available in audio, as excellently narrated by Brad Wills! You can listen to it at Audible, Amazon US, Amazon UK, Amazon AU, and Apple.

I’d like to thank Brad for all the hard work he has done on the FROSTBORN series, but especially on DRAGON KNIGHT, which he had to record during some family health difficulties.

And since someone is going to ask like five seconds after I post this, we are planning to do the final FROSTBORN book as soon as possible. If all goes well, FROSTBORN: THE SHADOW PRISON will hopefully be out by summer or thereabouts. Once it is done, between the first five FROSTBORN books from Tantor, the ten that will be self-published, and the SEVENFOLD SWORD and DRAGONTIARNA audiobooks from Podium, you’ll be able to listen to all thirty-seven Ridmark books from beginning to end for something like 300 hours of audio. It will be exciting to see what the final combined length is.

Thanks for listening, everyone!

Yep, it was certainly a feat of endurance to record the last quarter of the book.

For those who might be interested, I take care of my elderly mother, who will be 95 in just a couple of weeks. As I was nearing the finish line of THE DRAGON KNIGHT, she had a dramatic one-day plunge in what had been nothing more than garden variety dementia. This was bad, though, and the situation detiorated over the course of a several hours. In a fifteen-minute span after I called the EMT’s, she didn’t even know who I was, and was talking TO me ABOUT me as if I were someone else. It was horrible and scary, and pulled the rug of life right out from under my feet. She was admitted to the hospital for a week, then straight to a nursing home, a situation that has been her greatest fear since admitting her own mother to such a facility. During this period, she would have a day or two of lucidity, juxtaposed with times of outright insanity in which she thought she was in a basement, or at a hotel, or a mall, crying, hysterical, utterly confused. It was so very, very sad. Thus, those first two weeks were pretty much a wash for me, as I was completely exhausted – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Thankfully, Jonathan is no stranger to my unending series of crises both big and small – this one was gargantuan – and as always he displayed great compassion, patience, and understanding.

Anyway, you’d never know it from the performance, and believe me, I was worried that it would. But my ace engineers – Neil Kesterson and his daughter, Mara – managed to edit around my subsequent mistakes and flubs and bad timing brought on by brain fog and exhaustion, and the concluding chapters are filled with excitement and suspense as only Jonathan can do. Enjoy it!
