CLOAK OF EMBERS table of contents!

I am finally far enough along to share the Table of Contents for CLOAK OF EMBERS!

CLOAK OF EMBERS in its (mostly) final form turned out to be about 110,000 words long, which both makes it the longest book I wrote in 2023 and the longest Nadia book to date.

You might also note that the chapter count expanded from 22 to 27. I am not exactly a stickler for chapter length (to the annoyance of some readers) and generally my rule of thumb is that a chapter needs to be as long as it needs to be to cover the necessary scenes. That said, a couple of the chapters were way too long. Like, I don’t currently have plans to do CLOAK OF EMBERS as an audiobook, but if I did, some of the chapters would have needed to be split up anyway because I don’t think ACX allows chapters longer than seventy minutes. Better to take care of that now than to have it become a headache a few years down the road if circumstances change and we do more CLOAK MAGE audiobooks.

And I do always enjoy thinking up the chapter titles.

Anyway, if all goes well, I hope the book will be out next week before Thanksgiving!

Finished reading the book. Was nice, but there is an irritating [Plot Error] which reduced the enjoyent quite a bit.

The book makes it appear that Nadia completely *forgot* what a Warder tower and what Singularity did with it. This was already explained multiple times – it was even explained in by the High Queen in the very last book (Cloak of Dragonfire) that a Warder tower allows opening rift ways with pinpoint accuracy.

So, the very big “reveal” of Nadia gaining “enlightenment” on how Singularity opened Rift ways with great accuracy was very off-putting. Several pages of dialogue ALREADY explained this in previous books.

I think due to the long breaks you take writing Nadia books compared to your other series, some of the plot points are getting duplicated. You probably need to maintain a guide with “Plot Points Already Revealed”
