upcoming books

Now that SHIELD OF STORMS is out and is selling briskly (thanks everyone!) what am I working on next?

The next book I publish will be SEVENFOLD SWORD ONLINE: LEVELING. I’ve been chipping away at it for a while, and I’m about 75% of the way through. If all goes well I’m hoping to publish it in February. I haven’t decided how long SEVENFOLD SWORD ONLINE will be, and it depends on how LEVELING does, but I’m strongly leaning towards a trilogy with the third book wrapping everything up in the story. I have a year’s worth of sales data from the first book now, and I’ve concluded that the market for LitRPG is overwhelmingly in KU and audio, so into Kindle Unlimited LEVELING will go, with hopefully an audiobook coming a few months after.

After that, I will write GHOST IN THE VEILS. I’ve already started it and am 1,000 words into the book. What will it be about? Caina, Morgant the Razor, and Sophia Zomanek will have to team up to solve a mystery. They had a similar dynamic waaaay back in GHOST IN THE TOWER (which was waaaaaaaay back in 2018!) and it was fun to write. When will GHOST IN THE VEILS be published? Before it’s scheduled recording slot in April, that’s when! 🙂 When published, GHOST IN THE VEILS will be available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Google Play, Apple Books, Smashwords, and my Payhip store.

I gotta admit that inspired a brief moment of reflection. I feel like I just wrote GHOST IN THE TOWER, but it was nearly six years ago now. Tempus fugit!

Anyway, after GHOST IN THE VEILS, my next book will be WIZARD-THIEF, the sequel to HALF-ELVEN THIEF back in December. I’m actually already 21,000 words into that, so it should come out fairly quickly once GHOST IN THE VEILS is done.

By then, we’ll be at the end of spring and the start of summer already, so the next two books I plan after that are CLOAK OF TITANS and SHIELD OF DARKNESS.

So that’s what I’m planning to write the next few months.

I am so excited for seven fold sword online, the first one was instantly one of my favourite wolds you have created, and after reading it it got me in to your iron fist series, and even made me decide to actually go back and start reading sevenfold sword from way at the start frost borne, a series I had previously written off as needing to read to many books to catch up on everything, as I first stumbled across it after reading the malison series. I really hope it does well!!

I understand that you’re trying to reduce the number of books in a series, plus the facts that your fantasy sells better and that Online crept across the finish line instead of sprinting. I’ll still be impressed if you can make it a trilogy. There’s 4-5 books of material there easy.

Yeah, I was originally thinking around six, but if it doesn’t sell I don’t want to expend that quantity of effort dragging the story across the finish line for six books. I think I can wrap it up satisfactorily in a trilogy, but we’ll see how book #2 does in a few weeks.

Have just read all the books in the Silent Order series. Could not put them down. The storylines followed on from book to book and did not jump about all over the place backwards and forwards like some of the writers do these days. Any thoughts on more Scfi books in the future?
Will try some of your other works but main interest is Scfi. Keep writing..

Having just finished the Dragonskull series (while waiting for Cloak of Titans,) I thought how great it would be if a short story about Gareths return home with Niara would be. His mothers reaction would be precious. Just starting on the sevenfold sword series. I love all your books and you have totally taken over my kindle!

Thanks! Gareth’s and Niara’s return home is a significant plot point in SHIELD OF STORMS.

    Hello Jonathan,
I would have bought the book in any case, BUT having Morgant and Sophia promises a lot of fun. It is fresh in my memory, as I started to reread Ghost Exile and Ghost Night, when you anounced Ghost Armor, and was finished, when you published the book.

    Best regards
