World of THE GHOSTS – the Immortals of Istarinmul

Both the Emperor of Nighmar and the Shahenshah of Anshan have claimed the great city of Istarinmul throughout the centuries. Now Istarinmul is independent of either power, and the word of the city’s Padishah is law from the Vale of Fallen Stars to the deserts of Alqaarin. Yet trying to rule the nobility of Istarinmul is like trying reign over a den of serpents – and more than one Padishah has come to a sudden and unexpected end.

Hence, the Immortals.

The Padishah’s personal guard and army, the Immortals are slave children raised in the Padishah’s service. From the age of five they train daily with weapons, and from the age of thirteen they daily drink a variety of potent alchemical elixirs, giving them superhuman strength and stamina. But the elixirs come with a price – bit by bit they induce madness, and sooner or later the Immortals descend into homicidal madness, and must be put down by their fellows.

Despite that, or perhaps because of it, few soldiers are as feared on the battlefield.

  • An army of persian like immortals? Someone call Leonidas!

Istarinmul, does that have any relation to the historical Byzantium/Constantinople/Istanbul? Or am I way off here?

A bit. It used to be an independent kingdom called Starifel, but the Empire conquered it. Then the Shahenshah of Anshan conquered it, and part of their royal family revolted and seized the city and its surrounding provinces for themselves. Hence, the Padishah of Istarinmul and his Immortals.
