AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON review

Saw AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON during my travels this weekend, and quite liked it. Lasers! Punching! Explosions!

A lot of people worry about a malevolent artificial intelligence taking over the world (Terminator, The Matrix, Elon Musk, etc.), but I’m not one of them. This is because I’ve spent a very long time working in day-to-day IT, and I know firsthand the endless amounts of maintenance than any complex IT system requires. And no matter how much maintenance you do, something always goes wrong.

Like, Ultron would be making his big climatic speech about how humanity needs to be cleansed, and then he would freeze in mid-sentence and announce that he’s currently installing Windows Update 1 of 73, giving the heroes ample time to defeat him.

The danger isn’t extinction – the danger is slavery. All higher intelligences need ‘maintenance’. :-p

I suppose the clever AIs would arrange it so that the “maintainers” never realized what was going on. So I suppose it’s possible Google and Amazon already rule the world and we just don’t know it. 🙂
