why is THE THIRD SOUL so short?

A reader emailed to ask why the individual volumes in THE THIRD SOUL are so short.

Basically, it was an experiment I did in 2011, back when ebooks were still closer to their infancy, to see if a series of linked novellas would sell as well as full-length novels.

They did not. 🙂

So eventually I combined them into THE THIRD SOUL OMNIBUS ONE and THE THIRD SOUL OMNIBUS TWO and left it at that.

I might return to the world of THE THIRD SOUL at some point, but I want to finish the FROSTBORN series before I make any decisions about what I’m going to write next. If I do return to THE THIRD SOUL setting, I think it will be with full length novels (60,000 to 80,000 words), rather than novellas.

That’s interesting. I see that I bought (and therefore read) the first 6 books of THE THIRD SOUL series but then stopped. I have this vague recollection that the free download intro to book 7 made me think it was radically different (perhaps a new main character in a new place?) and it didn’t resonate with me or something.

Ah well, I figure if an author writes even one series that resonates with me, I’m quite happy. You’ve written (are writing) two (Caina and Nadia), so I’m already doubly happy with you! And I like those series so much that if they were the only books on Earth, I could read them over and over and still be happy enough (and eventually I’d find all of the typos!).

Thanks! We did shift to a new set of characters in THE THIRD SOUL 6. 7 & 8, but they weren’t as popular as Rachaelis and Corthain.

I’m really looking forward to starting CLOAK GAMES: SHATTER STONE next month. Poor Nadia doesn’t realize just how much trouble is about to find her…

Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the FROSTBORN books.

The “soulblade on a stick” is an interesting idea, but unfortunately a soulblade has to be in physical contact with its bearer in order for its power to work.
