Ghost Wounds, a terminal episode

You dodge past Ark’s next swing and step around his shield, ghostsilver dagger in hand. The tingle of sorcery grows stronger, and you lash out, hoping your dagger will disrupt whatever spell is laid upon the bracelet.

But Ark reverses his sword arm’s motion and swings at you. You’re too close for him to use the sword, so he merely settles for punching you in the gut with his sword hand. The blow strikes you like a blacksmith’s hammer, ripping the breath out of you in a single agonizing explosion, and knocking you back several steps.

And before you can recover yourself, he buries his sword to the hilt beneath your breastbone.

The ghostsilver dagger falls from your numbed fingers, and you stare at Ark as the world turns gray and misty. For the first time, emotion touches his expression, and agony fills his face, the uttermost despair of a man who believes himself damned beyond all possibility of hope.

Then he kicks you off his sword, and everything goes black.
