A Sherlock Holmes quote is appropriate here. Trust me on this. From “A Study In Scarlet”:

“Punishment has been slow in coming, but it has overtaken you at last.”

And another from “The Speckled Band”:

“Violence does, in truth, recoil upon the violent, and the schemer falls into the pit which he digs for another.”

And, of course, a Biblical quote (from the end of Nahum chapter 3):

“Nothing can heal you;
your wound is fatal.
All who hear the news about you
clap their hands at your fall,
for who has not felt
your endless cruelty?”

You know, if you were to ask, I would say that I think the wicked are never punished in this world, that they die fat and happy in their beds, and the just are forever miserable and persecuted.

But, it seems…not always.
