Superluminary, by John C Wright

The SUPERLUMINARY books by John C Wright are one of the most interesting science fiction books I’ve read lately.

What’s it about? Basically, as mankind spreads out to explore the solar system, a scientist discovered a cache of ancient Forerunner super-technology. Using this technology, he and his family conquered the solar system and modeled themselves after the ancient Roman gods. Centuries later, the scientist has disappeared, and his family still rules the solar system using the super-technology that has made them into the functional equivalent of gods. The scientist, who called himself Lord Tellus, doled out a specific super-science to each of his children – Lord Jupiter can control electromagnetic radiation, Lord Saturn can control time, Lord Neptune can control gravity waves, and Lady Venus can control minds, and so forth.

But Lord Tellus has disappeared, and with him disappeared the knowledge of one super-science – the superluminary science, the power to travel faster than light.

However, Aeneas, the son of Lady Venus, wants to ends his family’s despotic rule and bring democracy to the solar system. As Aeneas soon discovers, there is more going on in the story of Lord Tellus than meets the eye.

What follows is basically The Aeneid crossed with Warhammer 40k.  Also, there are planet-sized Space Vampires, entire fleets of Dyson Spheres that consume stars as weapon fuel, and a whole lot of scheming and derring-do.

Definitely worth the read! The series is in Kindle Unlimited if you want to check it out.
