Characters of Demonsouled: Gerald Roland

A knight vows to defend the weak, to pursue the wrongdoer, to uphold justice and follow the right. Most knights regard their vows as little more than a formality, and many ignore them outright.

Gerald Roland does not.

The youngest son of Lord Malden Roland, Gerald is pious, upright, and chaste – a remarkable anomaly both for a knight and a son of the famously licentious Lord Malden. Not a few of Gerald’s contemporaries assume that he is weak, a pious fool with little understanding of war and combat.

They could not be more wrong.

For at the age of eleven, Gerald become the squire of Lord Malden’s most trusted household knight, Mazael Cravenlock. And Mazael taught Gerald to fight. Today both knights remain fast friends. It seems strange that pious knight like Gerald could be the friend of the cynical (and somewhat lecherous) Mazael. But there is no hypocrisy about Mazael. He fights, and he wins. And it was Mazael Cravenlock who saved the house of Roland below the gates of Tumblestone.

Though Gerald has a weakness for women in distress, much to Mazael’s amused annoyance – and heaven protect anyone who threatens a woman in Gerald’s hearing.
