In book one of “The Wheel of Time”, Egwene al’Vere is Rand’s whiny, conceited girlfriend. She’s kind of a bitch, to be frank.

In book twelve, when the White Tower falls under Seanchan attack, Egwene organizes the novices, rallies the Aes Sedai, takes command of the defense, starts blasting the invaders out of the sky, and almost single-handedly saves the Aes Sedai from a lifetime of horrific slavery as Seanchan damane.

Crowning moment of awesome, indeed.
